Chic Ladies: Mikaela Hållén

Mikaela Hållén is a very talented stylist and blogger working for STYLEBY magazine, and one of those wonderful human beings I’ve had the pleasure to get to know since we became colleagues. Her personal style is raw and, for once I’d dare to say, really cool. I also love her work which keeps on evolving and inspiring me every time. As told by Mikaela:

Tell me about your style. What are your favourite brands?

My style is minimalistic and I wear a lot of black pieces – you can’t find much colour in my wardrobe. To give a look more attitude I focus on accessories and try to experiment with shapes and materials. I would say that Louis Vuitton by Nicolas Ghesquiére and Céline by Phoebe Philo are number two favourites.

How did you become a stylist?

I started studying fashion, and then met a friend who told me about a stylist course that I ended up applying for. Later, that led to me working as a stylist assistant and a few years to an interview for STYLEBY magazine. I’m blessed that I have met so many amazing women along the way who have inspired me and given me the opportunity to grow as a stylist and creative.

What’s on your wish list?

A pair of Louis Vuitton jeans which I already have, but in one size bigger. I’m waiting for them to show up on Vestiaire Collective because, right now, the zipper drops down and the button releases when I wear them. The ass looks great though, haha!

Which are you favourite beauty or skincare products?

I use a vitamin c-serum from Björk and then I mix a moisturiser from the same brand with three drops of pure argan oil from Moroccan Oil. I’m kind of obsessed with oils and I use them all over my body, I even use them as fragrance since I’m sensitive to perfume; Coco Coco’s ‘Bath Oil’ with coconut is my scent.

How do you detox?

Working out is the best medicine for me when I’m feeling low; Abs is my favourite part to drill. I’ve recently begun to eat healthier and my friends have inspired me a lot by sending me vegetarian recipes that are easy to make. And oh, I start every  morning with a turmeric shot (or before going to bed after a lot of drinks… I imagine that the shot will make the hangover go away).

What are your favourite places to hang out in Stockholm?

For drinks I’d recommend all bars near Mariatorget and for dancing Trädgården and Slakthuset in the summer. I also love to spend time in the Swedish archipelago, it’s magic!

Just a few things on my mind like the perfect dress from Totême and the trench as well; It could be I’ve invested in both of them. Edita Vilkeviciute whose photo I’ going to show to my hairdresser tomorrow. The Row’s store in New York with constantly changing decor and the oh-so-chic, way too expensive, pearl earrings from Céline.

Current Obsession

Right now feeling the ‘Maceio’ mules from Jacquemus which is one of the most interesting brand at the moment. The wooden heels are actually mismatched creating a quirky impression.

I like to accessorise with silk scarves which should come as no surprise. Hence I got pretty stoked when I was contacted by Mehrotra, a lifestyle brand inspired by Swedish and Indian cultures. Their ‘Mumbai’ scarf in beige with navy stripes is a gem; A piece that is easily paired up with my favourite blouses and knitwear.

Chic Ladies: Hedvig Palm

Hedvig Palm is a Swedish model who is currently based in New York. Hegvig has a pretty impressive list of brands on her resume such as Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Valentino, Jil Sander, Chloé and Totême to name of a few. It is no surprise due to the way she carries herself and because there is something magical about her fresh looks and style. As told by Hegvig:

Tell me about style. What are your favourite brands?

My style is classic, elegant and always comfortable. I love shirts and blazers, and the androgyne look, though I also wear romantic blouses and floral dresses occasionally. I like the idea of having a base wardrobe with quality pieces that all kind of go together and I add details to spice it up depending on the mood of the day. That can make my style more sporty, playful or festive. Having I wardrobe I can rely on is also helpful when packing for work trips because I’m living out of my suitcase most of the time; I sometimes end up being months without repacking. Brands that inspire me include Totême, Jil Sander, Prada, Céline, Arket and the old Balenciaga with its significant shapes.

What are the pros of modelling?

The pros of modelling are the variations of the job; Everyday is different, all places I get to see as well as the inspiring and creative people working in the business. It has given me so much experience which I’m thankful for!

What are you planning yo buy next?

My next buy will be a pair of sneakers, maybe the Adidas Campus in navy. I’m also a very big fan of silk scarves and I don’t think you can own too many. I would like to find a nice vintage scarf from Hermés.

Which are your favourite beauty or skincare products?

Weleda’s ‘Skin Food’ moisturiser is a very rich cream that I like to use in the winter. Otherwise, I don’t do much to my skin myself as it’s being taken care of by the makeup artists I work with, though another favourite is a beauty elixir from Caudalie. It is a herbal spray with the most amazing smell of rose and peppermint among other things; It is refreshing, gives the face a glow and makes you relax. I need to get it myself as it would be perfect to bring on long flights. I never wear makeup on my skin when I don’t work, so that my skin can rest.

How do you detox?

I try to eat healthy with a lot of vegetables and mostly vegetarian, but I love all kinds of foods and trying out local cuisines when travelling. The best way for me to reload and gain energy is to go for a run in the nature. Nothing beats feeling the wind, the sun and the smell of plants and trees.

What are your favourite places to hang out in New York?

In New York I love having a picnic in Central Park with friends, going to museums (the Metropolitan is my favourite) and watching opera or ballet at the Metropolitan Opera House. When it comes to restaurants and cafés the scene is endless but I love having matcha latte at Chalait.
