Beauty Talk: ARE YOU MAKING THESE COMMON SKINCARE MISTAKES?

Caroline, A Style Journey

Our skin is looking oh…so horrible this days. One would perhaps think we said goodbye to these outbursts with our teens, but no. ..we’re not even close. Now, we’ve definitely been messing around with our skincare rutines, and probably deserved a lot of those imperfections, but that has all changed.

Below we’ve gathered our biggest skincare mistakes, what we did to change them AND the result of that.

JULIANE, PROJECT LEADER

In the past I’ve never used a moisturizing cream, and I didn’t really care for my skin much as I was pretty happy with it. But that has all changed with age… and now (on demand on my mother actually!) I’ve taken on some serious facial rutines – and voilà a much prettier face.

… and my best product? This day cream from No7.

KATARINA, FASHION EDITOR

I actually have a few mistakes I used to make (like for instance not using a oil-based makeup remover, or not having face massage as a part of my routine), but if I have to pick one, it has to be that I for a long period did NOT use a toner…

I felt like even though I always made sure to cleanse my face and hydrate it morning and evening, I never felt my skin had THAT glow – you know what I mean? SO, I complained and got a tip from a friend to try adding a toner and it helped. A lot actually. However I still didn’t get THAT glow I was aiming. That was until I got introduced to THE toner; the toning pads from Exuviance. Not only do they add THAT glow, they’re perfect pre-makeup preppers and leave your skin even more hydrated and elastic.

CAROLINE, BEAUTY EDITOR

What have I ever done right with skincare? It’s gotten better during the years, but staying loyal to ineffective and often too strong products, going to bed with makeup and using my cleanser as makeup remover are benchmarks in my skincare-career. Changing into mild, natural products have definitely (and surprisingly enough) been skin-changing to me. Product-wise the cleanser from RÅ Organic Skincare for oily skin has proven itself as the love of my life.

Luxury vs. Budget: THE WHITE FAUX FUR

Katarina, A Style Journey

(Affiliate) As much as we LOVE timeless high-end pieces, there is just something about finding perfect replacements. Not only are they mostly a lot more wallet-friendly (which of course has a lot to say in these pre-Christmas days), they’re sometimes even better!

Anyways, we’ve been dreaming of living in this super chunky, long, Balenciaga, faux fur. Why? Well, it’s just amazingly wearable – perfect for both everyday wear and late nights – not to mention we really need that heat. BUT sadly 27,875 NOK is WAY out of our budget ATM. Lucky for us though, we just came over this perfect budget version from H&M!

Sadly a bit shorter, but the perfect hair length, the super delicate V-neck and the polar bear color makes up for the missing half a meter. We’ll just take it as oversized as possible, please.

Travel Smart Like: CELINE AAGAARD

(Affiliate) Celine Aagaard considers herself a proper packing geek (yes, she makes packing lists!) and has about the most elaborate theory of packing we’ve ever seen!

We’ve been lucky enough to talk to the stunning IT-girl and Founder and Creative Director at Envelope1976 about how she travels as smart as possible – AND we’re too ready to copy this clever, clever cat!

Oh, and check out her IG for travel-style updates!

WHAT’S YOUR BEST TIPS FOR «SMART TRAVELING AND WHAT MAKES IT SO GENIOUS?

1. THINK BEFORE YOU PACK: Do some research on your destination and consider questions like: the purpose of your trip, how long you’re going for and key garments. By latter I mean clothes that can be combined with really anything – because we all know it’s little help with a nice dress, if your shoes or jackets don’t go with it!

2. BE REAL: Ask yourself: «will I actually use this?». Instead of packing what I think I will use, I think what do I usually use. Yes, this results in that I pack at lot of the same things, but they’re clothes I actually end up wearing.

3. THINK TWISE: I’m a big fan of clothes that can be worn more than one way! This way you pack two outfits in one.

The blazer is a standard in Celine’s suitcase because in can be used in so many combinations. Grey blazer from Isabel Marant.

4. CONSIDER YOUR COLOR PALETTE: I always bring monochrome clothes or a color pallet that can easily be combined.

5.TRAVEL SMART: Choose style and comfort! Traveling in too tight jeans is not great, but at the same time you never know who you meet or how long the journey will take, therefore I leave my track-suit at home.

6. BE SAFE! Pack an outfit which includes a scarf and a swimming suit in your hand luggage. This way you’re safer if your luggage gets lost.

Scarf from Loewe and swimsuit from Eres.

7. THE MUST-HAVES: Shoes are always tricky, but a pair of flat sandals, one pair of heels, sneakers and boots will do the job.

8. DON’T THINK BIG: …think small! To avoid overweight I never choose the biggest suitcase I have. Smaller suitcases comes with natural restrictions. This way you also avoid extra costs on the airport.

9. THE MOST IMPORTANT… Bring an extra shopping bag!

HOW DO YOU PREP FOR A JOURNEY?

I’m usually a late packer, but sometimes I do plan, especially if I’m going on a longer holiday. I always safe weather-wise, so trousers are always with me – even when the forecast is showing 30 degrees. I also try to take advantage of the space I have in the suitcase – for instance by putting socks and underwear in the small rooms.

HOW DOES YOUR HANDBAG LOOK LIKE?

It’s rather big, but yet overloaded – especially on the journey back. This is mostly because I tend to grab so many things with me on my way out. I use an old beach bag from Balenciaga which has been through a lot(!) and is no longer off-white…

WHAT DO YOU NEVER TRAVEL WITHOUT?

A suitcase, haha. Swimsuit, sunnies, a blazer, phone and a eco hair brush of bambuseae. As well as a colorful bracelet my son made at school.

IF YOU COULD ONLY BRING THREE BEAUTY PRODUCTS, WHICH ONES WOULD IT BE?

Special care cream from Green Peel from Dr. Schrammek,  Instant Light Eclat Minute from Clarins, Eight Hour Mist from Elizabeth Arden and my new foundation from Lancôme.

WHAT IS YOUR ‘SECRET TRAVEL COMPANION’?

It’s secret…
