Patent leather has been following us this fall/winter and we’ve been wearing (and will continue wearing) the shiny material for any occasion; work, shopping, travel, parties. We’ll even wore it this festive season, both pants, skirts and dresses! For everyday wear combine patent with simple classics and basics like knit and shirts, blazers and winter coats. Also be careful with the materials. Patent can easily become to much, so tone it down with wool, cashmere and ribbed knit for daytime.

But when night falls the rules change – at least a bit! Switch out wool and daytime materials with silk, satain, pleats and even velvet, for a more playful and daring look. It doesn’t mean going all crazy; think sophisticated and minimalistic in a modern way by for example going black on black with patent and a silky top or throw a velvet blazer in a delicate color like burgundy or dark green over a black patent skirt. Adding a white top or turtleneck (or just any white detail) will make the outfit softer.
